Biozentrum University Basel, Basel
Around CHF 328 million will be invested in the 19-storey research tower (16 upper floors and 3 basement floors) with a usable area of 23,400 m2 and is expected to accommodate 600 researchers and 800 students in the future. By 2029, a Life Sciences Campus will also be built around the research tower as a meeting centre with various new buildings, freely accessible places, seating, water features and art interventions.
Particularly complex for the planning were the underground rooms, in which, among other things, a number of sensitive scientific facilities such as the Centre for Cellular Microscopy and Nanoanalysis or the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy are located.
Due to unforeseen planning and organisational reasons on the part of the client, Kannewischer Bern AG joined the construction project at the end of 2016 to replace the previous specialist planner.
